Johnny Depp - Magic Man

I was decided to create a video I wanted to make years ago - just for giggles tonight.
It's really a response to my old video or should I say to my younger self.

"My mama loves, she loves me
She gets down on her knees and hugs me
She loves me like a rock"

This is for you Skip!

Today's Underground Rock Music

I posted a blog earlier today called "WTF Happened To Rock Music?!" and towards the end of it I stated:

"What about NEW singers/bands that formed in the 2000/2010's? The NEW groups/singers of the 2000/2010's were Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Pussycat Dolls, Danity Kane, Justin Bieber and Jonas Brothers (to name a few)."

The most popular artists tend to have more than a million listeners. To give you and idea of the popular artists that started (formed) in 2000's-2014's I will go by Last.FM's number of listeners to give you an idea. Keep in mind that Last.FM is only ONE place to hear music on the internet... there are several other online and offline radio stations.

1. Britney Spears (2,885,103 listeners)
2. Christina Aguilera (2,501,538 listeners)
3. Pussycat Dolls (1,893,984 listeners)
4. Justin Bieber (1,073,034 listeners)
5. Jonas Brothers (548,137 listeners)
6. Danity Kane (500,855 listeners)

The above artists I do not listen to... yet I have heard of them due to their popularity. I have sampled some of their music but do not find it at all appealing, in-fact I find the sound appalling. The "mainstream" Rock Music of today is not my cup of tea.  These modern "hyped" artists do not have sound nor the feel of the older REAL ROCK MUSIC. In my opinion the "popular" rock of today has defaced Rock Music... they are trying to sound more hip-hop while calling it Rock Music.

I stated in my earlier post "WTF Happened To Rock Music?!":

"If you want to hear "REAL ROCK MUSIC" today you will have to find a band that has been together before the 2000's or search hard and deep "underground". By "underground" I mean a group/singer is NOT "mainstream" or "popular"."

Over the last few weeks of listening to a handful of "underground" modern bands I found a few that I actually like. What I like is the retro sound/feel to the music. They are influenced by "REAL ROCK MUSIC" that most of us have enjoyed over the years and it shows in their music.  The modern "underground" bands take their influences from groups like Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, The Cure, The Beach Boys etc. while maintaining their own unique Rock sound. The bands below is what "Modern Rock" should sound like (IMHO). Below are a handful of "new" bands that I am enjoying listening to.

 DIIV (2011 - present)
Song: "Doused" has a new wave, post-punk, surf rock sound about it.

She Wants Revenge (2005 - present)
Song: "Written in Blood" is  post-punk, new wave and gothic rock

Jex Thoth (2007 - present)
Song: "The Places You Walk" a psychedelic, heavy metal (doom), (neo) folk sound.

If REAL ROCK MUSIC is to survive then we should not call the Hip-Hop sound Rock Music. This ruins both genres. If the two sounds are mixed then it should be tagged/stated as such. Hip-Hop is what it is "Hip-Hop".  Rock Music is "Rock Music". A fusion of the two genres one might call Hip-Rock or Rock-Hop but certainly NOT Rock Music.

The "mainstream" bands/singers that started out in 2000-present should listen to the older Rock Music or the modern "underground" Rock Music to know what REAL ROCK MUSIC should sound like.

I'm still in hopes that in the future (2020's) that the new bands/singers of that era will bring about REAL ROCK MUSIC once again. Whether it be Punk, New Wave, Psychedelic, Progressive, Folk-Rock, Disco, Rockabilly, Gothic, Heavy Metal or some new form of Rock - as long as it it REAL ROCK MUSIC on the modern Rock Stations once again.

WTF Happened To Rock Music?!

It's been awhile since I've posted here on this blog... been busy with other things. This morning I was listening to some old music from the 1980s -- I forgot just how good some of the music was back then. For a long while I quit listening to most music from the 80s, I guess I was just tired of it for awhile but now I'm back listening to music from my teen years again.

I listen to a variety of music from different time periods but I still love my Rock Music the best. While listening this morning I got to thinking about how much Rock Music has changed since it's inception in the 1950s. Generally speaking, Rock Music has always been good music to my ears except for the last decade (or so). Most of the "Pop Music" (popular music) of today pales in comparison to the Rock Music most all of us grew up with.

My choices below are random (off the top of my head). This is no easy task to pick one song from each decade of GOOD ROCK MUSIC (1950's - 1990's).

Below is just a sample of my favorites from each decade (the era of GOOD ROCK MUSIC):

1950's
Elvis Presley - Jailhouse Rock

1960's
The Doors - Break On Through (To The Other Side)

1970's
Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same

1980's
The Clash - Rock the Casbah

1990's
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

*I hear a record scratch starting around 2000*

The most popular (and good) bands of the 2000s were bands that started out in the late 1980's to 1990's. Band like: Green Day (1987), Blink-182 (1992), Radiohead (1985), The White Strips (1997), Nickleback (1995) etc... were all popular in the 2000's but not "new" in the 2000's.

What about NEW singers/bands that formed in the 2000/2010's? The NEW groups/singers of the 2000/2010's were Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Pussycat Dolls, Danity Kane, Justin Bieber and Jonas Brothers (to name a few).  All of a sudden I'm feeling sick while laughing...

The era of BAD ROCK MUSIC (2000's to today)

2000's
Jonas Brother - Burnin' Up

He's burning up while I'm barfing up... ugh!

 2010's
Justin Bieber - Boyfriend

This is so bad I can't even listen to the first full minute of the song.

WTF Happened To Rock Music?!

WTF happened to "REAL ROCK MUSIC"? We had some hard hitting music starting way back in the 1950's. Sure some of the Rock Music of the 1950's was not the hard/heavy rock most of us grew up with but it was the "roots" or beginning of Rock Music. By the time the of the late 1960's Rock Music became very hard/heavy sounding and it remained that way until the "new bands/singers" of 2000's came along to ruin Rock Music.

If you want to hear "REAL ROCK MUSIC" today you will have to find a band that has been together before the 2000's or search hard and deep "underground". By "underground" I mean a group/singer is NOT "mainstream" or "popular".

We've had about 5 decades or 50 years (50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's) of GOOD ROCK MUSIC. I can't wait to hear Rock Music of the 2020's. Maybe, just maybe, GOOD ROCK MUSIC will come back during the 2020's. I can only hope the "new bands/singers" of the future will listen to and bring back REAL ROCK MUSIC.

Maybe I'm just getting old... or maybe the Rock Music of 2000's-2010's really is that bad.

My teenage years was in the 1980's... that was considered to be the worst time period of music  until the beginning of 2000's. Even the worst music of the 1980's was still good by comparison to today's music.

Now let's get back to some GOOD ROCK MUSIC! I will leave you with one of my favorite songs that was very popular in my teen years... compare this to the "teen music" of today (Jonas Brother or Justin Bieber).

1987
INXS - Need You Tonight

In Memory of Bruce Lee

In Memory of the Master, Bruce Lee. (27 November 1940 - 20 July 1973 (aged 32)).

Post VIA Shannon Lee (Bruce Lee's Daughter):

Tomorrow is the 40th Anniversary of my father's passing. I cannot believe it has been 40 years. We went deep into the photo archives to put together a piece for you that is more of an intimate look at his life - his family, his friends, his childhood - to commemorate Bruce Lee's life and legacy that continues to inspire us all. The music that accompanies the video, 'Be Like Water' was written and performed by recording artist Mozez specifically for this tribute.

I hope you will all take a little time out of your day to watch.

I want to thank this wonderful community for its support, and for helping to preserve, protect and perpetuate Bruce Lee's legacy.

Walk On!

xShannon

R.I.P Bruce, we miss you. <3

Green Rain

I feel "green" and "rainy" today... so I searched around the net for some cool desktop wallpaper that may fit the bill.... this is what I found and made into my desktop wallpaper. Very nice creation!

In a wish that it was a rainy day, I decided to listen to some ambient natural sounds of rain, thunder and wind along with some light ambient music! Last.FM Radio: Relax Meditate Sleep.

I think this video would work nice for me today. :D
