Wild Plant Identification in Our Yard

'American Beauty Berry'

I've identified 4 autumn bloom/berry plants in the yard today; it's their time.

1 poisonous, 3 edible if done properly.

'American Beauty Berry' (Edible Berries, cooked, makes a good jelly).

'Goldenrod' (edible leaves, edible flowers to eat raw if cooked properly)

'Peppervine' aka 'Cow Itch' aka 'Buckvine' (Poisonous)

'Pokeberry' (Poisonous & Edible) (YOUNG leaves, shoots & stems are edible

if prepared/cooked properly. COOK berries for pies.).

*Pick plant at the proper time and cook well

- this plant is highly poisonous if one does not follow the directions correctly.

Poke Sallet

Cooking the young leaves, shoots & stems: Boil TWICE for 10 minutes each, then saute like spinach.

Its flavor will still be a bit bitter so add salt during the saute. For a real treat, saute diced onions in bacon grease, then add in diced in the pokeweed and saute well. Add in 4 beaten eggs and cook the eggs with the pokeweed (as you would make spinach and eggs). Check for seasoning and serve.

*You can add pepper sauce in the cooking process if you like.

I've got to try the edibles after I learn to prepare them properly.

Nut-Nut

Nut today. She said the 67F and cloud cover isn't suiting her - decided to go back to bed. LOL

Honey is loving the cooler weather as usual... but moving too fast for me to take a photo of her.

Not Feeling It This Year

The weather has cooled down - feels like Autumn here, but I'm just not feeling like Halloween this year. 5 days left to go - maybe it'll hit me before the 31st but it's doubtful. Feeling deeply depressed again... trying to get into the holiday spirit but it's simply not there. I'm devoid of holiday spirit this year.

Ready For Halloween 2018

I'm set up for Halloween!! Decorations out, candy dish now full, profile updated, got my "spooky" music ready -- and plenty of horror movies in there to watch when I'm ready for them! -- Just a costume left... and I've got one from a couple of years ago ready to wear w/mask if I desire it. Got stuff to make a no bake pumpkin cheesecake for closer to the date. Only thing left is to plan my Halloween meal.!

I'm feeling good today - fairly young is the feeling - pleasant. 🎃

All I left to do is sweep off the porch when the daylight hits us... Autumn cleaning is done again this year!!

This year instead of doing a 2 day hard cleaning, I did a bit here and a bit there over the last 2 or 3 weeks - I'm not as tired out this way... might do it this way from now on!!

Recipe: A Witches Cauldron of Chili

A Witches Cauldron of Chili (Substitutes in parenthesis)

1 1/4 Pounds ground goblin gizzards (ground beef 15%
fat) *Vegans and Vegetarians leave out the ground goblin gizzards

1 Medium eye of Cyclops (onion)

1 15 Oz. Can soft shelled beetles (kidney beans)

1 28 Oz. Can blood of bat (V-8 juice)

1/8 Teaspoon pureed wasp (prepared mustard)

1/4 Teaspoon common dried weed (oregano)

1 Dash Redtailed hawk toenails (crushed red
pepper)

2 Teaspoons ground sumac blossom (chili powder)

1 Teaspoon hemlock (honey or sugar)

1/2 Cup fresh grubs (sliced celery)

1 Tablespoon eye of Newt (pearled barley)

1 Tablespoon dried maggots (uncooked rice)

Water from a stagnant pond (tap water)

Preparation :
Substitutions are in parenthesis. Best made during the last phase of the moon, if that is not possible, just do the best you can in a softly lighted kitchen after dark.

Brown the gizzards in an iron cauldron over a fire made from the siding off of a haunted house, add chopped eye of cyclops and simmer until the pieces of eye become translucent again, add blood of bat, and soft shelled beetles, bring to a slow bubbling boil. At this time, add the common weed, maggots, toenails, sumac, grubs, hemlock, eye of newt and the pureed wasp.

As it cooks you may want to adjust the consistency with pond water. You can tell it is done when the eye of newt swells and the vertical tan colored 'cats eye' appears on one side.

October Orders

This month I've got dewormer on the way for the 3 cats. I want to make darn good and sure they are free from tapeworms and thought I'd better get them some roundworm medication too. These are the type of meds you can get over the counter so I thought I'd try them out because the reviews were great on both products. I'll know soon enough how well they work for my furry babies.

And yes they have more than enough food coming in... stocking up a bit for the winter with that now.

365 Artists - Autumn

My last 365 days of listening - top artists. My tastes in music have grown softer over the years.

New Age, Ambient, Dark Ambient, Neo-Classical Darkwave, Classical Piano, Smooth Jazz.... nice combo.

Autumn begins next week... I guess by New Years Day I'll know who I have listened to for  the entire 2017 year.

Autumn Decor For $1

$1 each - I got 3 pot holders and one oven-mitt!
My others got old and worn out so I got 2 pot holders and a decorative dish cloth the other day
for $5 at Wal-Mart. Today at the Dollar Store they had these for $1 each! Now I have
5 pot holders (they need washing and give me some for when others are dirty) and one
decorative dish towel and one decorative oven-mitt!! A CHEAP way to add color and "spice" up the kitchen year round for me!! Autumn themed/colored kitchen I'm going with!

I put those cute bag clips on the spice rack and one of the fridge
(they have magnets on the back of them)! Looks cute!!
I'll post a pic when I get all my spice jars in and fixed up! :)

$1 and above the spice rack! Looks sooo cute that way!
I'm going with an Autumn/Witchy kitchen theme and this was too cute to pass up!

October Already

I still cannot believe it's already October!! Where did this year go so fast? It flew by for me way to quickly. In my mind we should still be in spring or early summer
(that's how fast this year is going for me!)
I wish time would slow down this month and for the rest of the year!!
